Alexia Michiels

Speaker
Resilience is an integrated method to release human potential
What really drives me is accompanying my client to be an agent of change

Alexia Michiels has choosen to focus on human resources and is particularly drawn to coaching, « a true human-centered approach. »

In China she was trained at the International Coach Academy and gets introduced to yoga at the same time. This is a revelation for Alexia as she considers those two disciplines both similar and complementary. As she deepened her knowledge of yoga, she became a teacher and met Sven Hansen, a South African doctor and founder of the Institute for Resilience. In 2010 she returned to Europe and launched Resilience activities with a French partner, while being based in Switzerland, close to nature.

Alexia Michiels advises the management at clients such as Axa, Nestlé, Mars or Lexmark, in Belgium, Europe and worldwide.

From the marketing of products to the resilience of teams!

Alexia opts for economic sciences at ICHEC to keep her options open. She also follows a development training, which will allow her to gain work experience abroad in Chile. She rapidly gets a job at Procter & Gamber in the marketing department.

Alexia Michiels got married at a young age: « At the age of 22, I moved from my parents’ home to my husband's place! » Two years later, her first child was born. As she wanted to spend some time with her family while maintaining a professional activity, she obtained a part-time job: a rare thing at the time. Alexia moved from the marketing department to the media one, as a consultant.

Weather Forecast

After the birth of her second child in 1998, Alexia feels the need to take a break and spends more time with her children. She uses her break to think about what really drives her in her professional life. That's when she remembers her childhood dream: work on TV... She sends a few CVs and successfully passed an interview at RTL-TVI. The private channel offers her to present the weather forecast.

During two years, Alexia is 'Miss Weather' at the popular Belgian TV channel. « If it was a very rewarding experience, it was also a very demanding one. It is no easy thing to be enthusiastic every day about such a topic. Also, while I was fully in my element at Procter & Gamber, RTL-TVI was a whole new world where I still had to be accepted. »

In 2002, the World Federation of Advertisers, based in Brussels, proposed her a job. Alexia accepted and worked with experts and the world's largest media advertisers. An exciting work!

Shanghai, coaching and yoga

In 2005, Alexia and her family left Belgium to Shanghai. The culture shock is huge! It is a change of life and a very rewarding source of questioning. Quite rapidly, she chooses to focus on human resources and is particularly drawn to coaching, « a true human-centered approach. »

For a year and a half, Alexia is trained at the International Coach Academy and gets introduced to yoga at the same time. This is a revelation for Alexia as she considers those two disciplines both similar and complementary: « both help to get to know yourself, to get out of your comfort zone and to go beyond your limits. » The young woman is already planning to combine these two approaches in an accompanying framework for future customers.

The Resilience Institute

Alexia Michiels realizes that she fully agrees with the Resilience principles. Especially the fact that a person isn't merely a brain, a mental being but also has a physical, emotional and spiritual dimension. With her husband, she decided to join the Dr Hansen and went to New Zealand to follow a formation. Once back in Shanghai, she learnt the craft on the ground, shadowing Sven Hansen in his work.

In 2010, the family decided to return to Europe and launched Resilience activities with a French partner, while being based in Switzerland, close to nature.
